Responsibilities
A security guard works at industrial plants, offices, companies, private households and on commercial and business premises. The work involves watching the area, locking up and opening up property, ensuring that equipment is connected, and checks on departures and vehicles. He may also be involved in alarm duties.
Securities guards work on foot or in cars, check over the sites at regular intervals and report back. If there are problems they investigate them themselves or if necessary raise the alarm or contact the authorities. The work is often evening and night work.
Skills
Security guards need to be reliable, responsible, and physically fit. They must have a knowledge of the regulations/law, be conciliatory in attitude, and be at least 18 years old. You can only work as a guard if you hold a security guard’s licence.
