Adults can develop themselves in liberal adult education establishments without any degree-related or occupational goals. There is a rich array of studies available that are of general educational worth, whether they relate to personal or societal interests. These studies are open to everyone regardless of their age, objectives and educational background. A tuition fee is usually charged.

Open Universities
The Open University in Finland is not a single, coherent organisation. Rather, almost all Finnish universities offer Open University education.
Students can complete individual courses or study modules at the Open Universities. The studies

- offer the students the opportunity to improve their general knowledge, upgrade their basic education, work toward self-development and prepare for academic degree studies

Folk high schools
Finnish folk high schools are residential schools: studies are full time, and the schools offer room and board. Most of the schools are owned by private ideological organisations, foundations or corporations.
