The basic mission of Finnish universities is to conduct scientific research and provide higher education based on research. University education provides broad competence and knowledge for employment in a wide variety of positions.
Finnish universities offer the following studies in English:
- Bachelor’s degree programmes
- Master’s degree programmes
- Exchange studies
- Postgraduate (Licentiate and doctoral) studies
- Continuing education
- Open University studies
Finnish universities can charge tuition fees from students who come outside European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA). All students must pay the costs of their housing and meals and any other expenses. Non-Finnish students are entitled to financial aid provided by the Finnish State if they live in Finland on a permanent basis for a purpose other than studying.
